USOM
What is USOM? What are the importance and duties of USOM?
USOM stands for National Cyber Incident Response Center.
The National Cyber Incident Response Center (USOM, TR-CERT) was established within the Information and Communication Technologies Authority (ICTA) within the scope of Article 4 of the “National Cyber Security Strategy and 2013-2014 Action Plan” published by the Council of Ministers Decree on June 20, 2013. The National Cyber Incidents Response Center was established to help ensure cyber security in our country, to identify emerging threats, to take measures to reduce and eliminate the effects of possible attacks and cyber security incidents and to share them with the identified actors.
USOM is an official institution that manages the notifications received from the first stage, follows and evaluates them until the solution process by its special teams. At the same time, it organizes national and international cyber security drills and helps raise awareness of public institutions and organizations against cyber-attacks and carries out awareness-raising and guidance activities.
The National Cyber Incidents Response Center (USOM), established within the Information and Communication Technologies Authority (ICTA), evaluates the notifications received about the threats emerging in the cyber environment at national and international level, and coordinates with public institutions and the private sector to detect and eliminate such threats.
Corporate and Sectoral SOMEs are obliged to take the necessary precautions against cyber-attacks made or likely to be made directly or indirectly to institutions, to establish mechanisms and event recording systems that can respond to such incidents, to have these teams established and to carry out studies to ensure the information security of their institutions.
In this context, a SOME team was established within Istanbul Bilgi University. The SOME team follows the directives and notifications from USOM, takes the necessary precautions against possible cyber attacks, and keeps the systems secure and up-to-date by making the necessary updates to the devices that can respond to such events.
For any questions and problems regarding cyber incidents, you can contact the SOME team via e-mail at some@bilgi.edu.tr.
